Hi all, welcome to SpeedwaySearch.com, Speedways first 'Speedway' only search engine.
I (Adam Jennison) decided to implement this web crawler after studying search engines algorithms and coming to the conclusion that a specific search engine would help Speedway fans find relevant content with ease. You see, to Google and other search engines, our speedway sites are quite small in terms of being worthy of indexing. There are only a few sites that get the relevant hits to spider daily and some of those are written so poorly that most spiders fail to get any relevant depth or quality data (take note those webmasters who insist on using sessionids in the URL or insist on FLASH only sites) and as for the rest, individual riders etc, can be so small as to not be indexed at all.
Then there is the question of swamping the results of any search. General search engines will contain sites that have similar words that Speedway sites have but will have better page rank so bubble to the top of the search engine.
In response to these factors I have started down a path that I am sure I will regret!
Part one is this version of this search engine, which has around 250-300 sites indexed making a searchable index of around 2 million entries (and growing), is based on phpdig.
To start with I have done a shallow index of most sites and left out the main BSF (British Speedway Forum), the reasoning is that its such a HUGE site and will contain keywords in such abundance that I don't want to swamp the results. I have also left out most of the non-English sites, which if the demand is there, I will include them all in ver.2
Now is a good time to ask any webmasters a few questions;
1) if you don't want your site included in the index of speedwaysearch.com then please email - adam.jennison@{NOSPAM}gmail.com (remove the {nospam}) and just let me know, but take into account that I have made this site to help drive hits to speedway releated sites! :o)
2) If you think your website is not included and should be, then email me on the same address and just mention the website address. I will do my best to update the index asap.
I am looking at reindexing certain sites daily, ones with new news items, while most of the others will be indexed either every 4 days or weekly? Let me know what you think. Again if webmasters wish to me to reduce the level of indexing of their sites then contact me and I will accomodate your request. oh - btw the search spider is a well behaved one and will follow the instructions in a well formatted robots.txt file.
Then there is a question to you, the general speedway visitor ;-) if you think there is a site that should be included, or if you find results (and sites) that shouldn't be included then please feel free to email (same address as above) with details, in fact if you wish to heap praise or scorn upon me then feel free to use the same address :o)
Oh - I forgot, this is part one of the search engine, if it takes off and is used by enough people (please pass on the link 'http:/www.speedwaysearch.com') then I will create a bigger and better search engine that will index more and provide better results.
So there you are Speedwaysearch.com in a nutshell... any feedback? - adam.jennison{NOSPAM}@gmail.com
